Weekly Update 10.14.19

Yesterday after service we had a great discussion regarding the proposed staff position for next year.  There were some great comments and questions as we looked at the Leadership Team’s draft for a “Family Ministry Director.”  If you were there, I hope you are excited to see what God is doing and will continue to do as we move through this process of discerning His will for the future of HBIC.  If you were not able to join us yesterday, I hope you will bring me any questions you may have about this possible staff addition next year.  This is not the last time you’ll be hearing about it between now and our Annual Meeting in January.  The Leadership Team and I want to ensure that our church family is on board with this direction and where we believe God is calling us to go before we make any decisions!

As we find ourselves mid-way through October, the holidays are already beginning to loom!  Just today I started on some early promotional materials for holiday-themed events!  The adult Sunday School class, for example, is wrapping up its series on the Spiritual Disciplines this Sunday and then Pastor Kimber will be leading a three week study through the book of 1 John.  After that, we’ll be in full holiday mode with a five week series on Advent…and then Christmas will be here!

But let’s not rush things!  It’s still fall after all and there’s plenty to do in the present!  This week, specifically is full of opportunities to get out and do something!  Tonight, we’ll once again be quilting together to make blankets for Water Street.  We’ve already made 15 blankets and we’re just getting started!  If you have any doubt about how easy it is to join in on this project, the fact that we’ve made so many in so short a time frame should help to ease your fears that anyone, and I mean everyone, has the skills  to participate in this!

Wednesday night there are two opportunities to get involved.  Our bi-monthly Dwelling Place Prayer Service starts at 7 pm and there’s also an opportunity to serve at GAiN packing items to send overseas to those in need (check in with Carole McFarland for more information on how to get involved with this).

I don’t know what God has in store for you this week but I pray that you make the most of every opportunity He brings your way!  Have a great week!

In Christ Alone,

Pastor Jan
