Weekly Update

Dear HBIC Church Family,

I’m so excited to start this Advent season together! As I see the lights go up, wreaths hanging in the windows, and Nativity scenes being displayed, all I can think is “it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!” With yesterday being the official start of Advent, we also officially began our Christmas Project. Our goal this year is to raise enough money to purchase 10 roofs ($3500) for families in Haiti recovering from the recent hurricane. I had assumed that with the officially start of the project, we’d be at 0% of our goal but, as I shared yesterday, we started off at 10%. This morning I discovered that we are now at 21% of our goal! I can’t wait to see what God does through HBIC’s generous giving!

As we lit the first candle of Advent yesterday, we also began our new series entitled “Marvels of Christmas.” For those of you who were able to join us, I hope you had some fun as we explored why Jesus is greater than Captain America. Hopefully you were also challenged to set your eyes on Christ in this holiday season, and in all seasons, as the author and perfecter of our faith…as the Ideal Man we should all strive to become like with the help of the Holy Spirit! I invite you, your family, and your friends to join us as we continue this series this coming Sunday as we look at why Jesus is greater than the Hulk. And I promise, I won’t be turning green…I think 🙂

As all the festivities of Christmas begin to accelerate, be sure to take a few moments each day to pause and reflect on the reason we celebrate. It is all too easy to get caught up in the holiday hubbub and loose sight of Christ in Christmas. Set your eyes on Christ and enjoy the hope, joy, love, and peace that is our in Jesus this Christmas season!

In Christ Alone,

Pastor Jan
